I’m so delighted to share my book cover with you all!
Every step of this process is its own little journey.
I’m so grateful for what I’ve learned along the way.
Here it is!
Designing the cover was really fun.
We started with playing around with concepts. Everything was up for grabs—font, colors, design…even my hair swoop was temporarily backwards as we played with the directionality of the hamster wheel. Ultimately, I found myself really connecting to particular colors. I’m delighted that colors on the cover and in the book match up.
The title process was interesting. In the past, I’ve always dreaded coming up with titles. My book’s working title was Reboot. When we decided to change it, we started by brainstorming phrases that captured the book’s essence. For me, that meant another read-thru of the book to find key phrases that jumped out at me. Then we compared our notes—and settled on Everything is Fine quickly. The title felt right. Does it resonate with you?
My book launches on April 1, 2025. In the meantime, it’s available for pre-order. I hope you’ll pre-order from your favorite local bookstore or mine!—it helps my book’s success. I can’t wait to share my book with you!
Thanks for reading Soft Things: comics about science, research, and being human. I create narrative comics that intertwine research and storytelling to make science relatable. My comics have been featured in the Washington Post and Mutha Magazine, among other outlets. My graphic memoir is forthcoming from Street Noise Books in April 2025. If you’re new here, welcome! You might wonder why I’m curious about shame, why this newsletter is called Soft Things, and who the heck I am, anyway.
